Reading and Writing Interests
-The types of books that I enjoy are funny books that make me laugh and books that are fictional, not too fictional though.
-The two issues that I am interested in are poverty and world peace.
-My favorite types of writing assignments are freewrites. These are my favorite because they are fun.
summary of Ch. 5 & 6
In chapter five and six of the pearl, Kino wakes up noticing that Juana wasn’t there so he sees her outside and she was about to get rid of the pearl , so he takes the pearl away from Juana then a guy comes and tries to take the pearl and then Kino kills him. So Kino , Juana, and coyotito leave. On the way , Kino notices that three guys are following them and he told Juana and Coyotito to go into the cave to take care of the people. Then , coyotito starts to cry and thinking that he was a coyote one of the men kills him. So out of anger(I’m guessing.)he kills all three of the men and got rid of the pearl.
1. He won the lottery , but the price had to pay was his own son, coyotito. His son died because Kino had the pearl.
The Lottery
1. This article is about how people win the lottery and end up at rock bottom. Some people tried to help other people and ended up bankrupt. When they win the lottery they think thhat they are super rich and then they go buy cars and houses and before they know it they are way over their heads. One guy won $16.2 million , but now he lives on Social Security and now he wishes it never happened. His former girlfriend sued him for a share of his winnings and his own brother went to jail for hiring a hit man to kill him and now he lives on $450 a month and food stamps! Ken Proxmire was a machinist when he won $1 million in the Michigan lottery and he moved to California and went into car buisness with his brothers. In five years he filed for bankrupcy. o basically winning the lottery isn’t the greatest thing to these people.
2. The prediction that I make about what will happen in the Pearl is that Kino might go crazy about finding the pearl and of course he will help his infant son first and after that the people that treated him badly would come to him asking for money and he probably wouldn’t help him.
A connection I can make from the story,The Lottery and The pearl is that in the lottery the people won thousands of dollars and in the pearl, Kino finds a pearl that could help him a lot. In the Pearl, the town finds out that Kino has found the pearl and they all wish that they had it. Kino then realized that the pearl was going to comfort and secure them.
Mr. Wilkoff
After reading ten of Mr.Wilkoff’s students’ weblogs, something interesting that I have read is that one of his students wrote about how she persuaded her friend to bikeride. I think that the way she explained how she persuaded her was very detailed and clear. I like the idea of having conferences with a class all the way in Denver, Colorodo. I think that it is great.
